I have a friend who tried and never came back to normal. It's been 15 years now.

He walks the streets seeing planets everywhere.
Your friend sounds like schizophrenic - he always had it in him but ayahuasca(or any other drug) could have possibly just triggered it and he went there full time. Sooner or later in life it would came up anyways, regular people don't trip for 15 years.

How is it different to DMT?
It depends how you look at it. The essence of the "magic" responsible for both which is DMT, is one and the same in both. But for a lot of people that is where any similarity ends. With DMT alone you have to smoke or vape it. It won't work as food or drink and because of the route of administration it's effects are relatively short-lived.
On the other hand, Ayahuasca has great sociocultural significance behind it's use which influences how and when it should be used, which is most often ritualistic.
It's ceremonial use often requires weeks or even months of pretty stringent dietary and lifestyle restrictions before any ritual. Some retreats even require attendees to live with them for this duration to ensure pre-ritual requirements.
Because it's a brew, it's effects are longer and more intense but upon consumption the initial effects can be a little unpleasant; a 'purge' - often intense vomiting, depending on who's taking it, which according to custom is a necessary and normal cleansing of the body before beginning any psychedelic (or spiritual, depending how you look at it) voyage.

Not saying one is better or worse than the other, but Ayahuasca is more than just wishing to expand consciousness whenever you "feel in the mood" or "on a whim" imo.

how do you even get the stuff? i thought you have to go deep in the amazon and live with the head hunters to get it?
My neighbor sold it to me, we live in Ecuador. But if you don't live in South America you can buy it easily on the dark web if you're comfortable using bitcoin and tor browser.

was scheduled to try it this September but I guess its gonna postpone to later till December. Can't wait!
Be careful, it's like rolling a die. You could get enlightened, you could lose your mind, you could die, or nothing could happen.

Is he a BHW mod?

Are you one of those guys that shoots acid everyday and calls it micro dosing?
How did you know? o_O

Guys, I tried ayahuasca and here's a video of how it helped me boost my SEO and digital marketing "career":

Nope. But I tried 6 tabs of acid when I was 17 because I though I got a batch of duds and then spend two days tripping.

Are you sure you've taken it? This sounds like something someone would say who's making up bs they think sounds right.

Dying or losing your mind? What are you talking about mate. People don't die from DMT overdoses, and maybe a 1/1,000,000,000 chance of losing your mind.

Also, "getting enlightened" and nothing happening are both like 1/1,000,000,000 too. There's certainly not going to be nothing happening, but you're not going to be enlightened by taking it either.

Hallucinogens are no joke mate, you shouldn't put out crap advice for people who might take them. You can do people serious harm by telling them they might die or lose their mind before taking DMT, especially if they take ayahuasca and freak out for 6 hours because they think they're dying.

If you'd taken it you'd know that already though.

How much does it cost?
It cost me $5 per dose, but real shamans don't charge. The ones that charge are the ones you should be afraid of, they pay about $1 per dose and then sell it for $100, a retreat in costa rica can go for $4000 and in Peru, Colombia, ecuador for about $1000.

Also in the big cities in the US people do weekend retreats for about $500.

Dozens of well-reputed and safe ayahuasca retreats where thousands of people have gone and done ceremonies with no problem. That's where anyone who is interested in doing ayahuasca should research because they take good care of you and there are lots of positive reviews for them.

Obviously they charge you money to do a ceremony... no malice to OP but he doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about.

Taking strong hallucinogens for the first time needs good people around you, especially something as intense as ayahuasca/DMT. It's really important.

Edit: anyone actually interested, places like this are the kinds of retreats you should use, esp. if you haven't taken hallucinogens before:

450 reviews, 415 of them are 5 star, 30 years in operation in Peru.

That makes sense.

I did think he was a bit off before his trip.

They're not the same at all. LSD and mushrooms are legitimately recreational, depending on dose and setting, but still, it's more of a recreational experience. Most of the time, the LSD and mushroom trips I've had have not had any deeper meaning or insight, other than the human mind is impossible to understand, but most of the time just sharing a strange and fun experience with other people.
They can be recreational, but I would never bet on it. I invite you to take a few grams alone. I only had two trips with people actually and they were incredible experiences but my solo trips were always very meaningful. There's somehow the sense that ayahuasca is reserved for life-changing experiences and mushrooms are just for fun. Mushrooms have a long history of serious use in Mexico.

Sure, technically heroin could be used ceremonially if a group of people decided to treat it that way, but I'm just speaking from experience when I said that the way that myself (and anyone else I've ever met) used mushrooms and acid was recreationally, where with DMT that is not possible in the same way because of the nature of the trip.

I wouldn't personally want to be on a mushroom or acid trip on my own - mainly because the duration of the best part of 24 hours can be tough enough when you have others with you to share it with, let alone 16 hours of being off your face, on your own in a room.

I've had plenty of profound experiences with acid/mushrooms while in the company of other people as well even with the experiences being mainly recreational, as I think almost anyone does when they take it. There's no real way to take hallucinogens and for them not to be meaningful, I don't think you need to sit in a room on your own to experience that, although without trying it I guess there's no way to be sure.

100% agree i find being with other people helps keep you "grounded". Only time I have ever solo "tripped" was a large dose of eddible with zero tolerance by myself. It was very intense and I wish I had other people with me

Yeah, yikes.. edible can be really intense anyway so having people with you helps to keep your mind in a good place. I've taken acid and mushrooms with gf before multiple times have have seen each other in states that you can't really see other people in too, and I've found those to be special experiences where you really get to see the inner workings of a person.. it can be about as close to spiritual as it gets really, and I've always found that really interesting

I've gone through depression and at that point consider ayahuasca too. In the end I got over it by travelling and most importantly I just shifted my focus to making money and drowned out everything else.. it can seem shallow at first to only care about money, but I tell you what it's the best cure for mental heatlh bs.. simplifies your priorities and life, and removes a lot of the focus on introspective shit, which was the cause of a lot of the crap I was unable to process.

I don't know if ayahuasca is a golden bullet for depression, but I found the idea interesting that when you do a ceremony you do multiple days back to back of taking it, and that with every one it gets stronger, and that you're confronted by your inner self during each one.. I felt like I needed my inner self to snap me out of my bs, ayahuasca seemed like the only direct way to do that.. in the end, it wasn't.

I had what I can only assume was an ego death off 200ug's. Haven't tripped since. It's strange I just don't feel the need to But it's slowly creeping back due to circumstances in my life. It's like I need to go back and connect with the world and myself once again

Sounds like your intuition is giving you the vibe that its the right time to shift gears, so probably should listen to that. Have you tried smoking DMT before?
