Firstly who gave you the valuation?

Secondly yes this still works in 2019, but buyers are wiser than they were 10 years back when people just offered a PR6 domain for sale.

Godaddy

I thought buyers buy domain based on how useful it is to their business niche and not specifically by the domain authority?

GoDaddy evaluate is not accurate.

Try to evaluate your domain by looking at similar sales using NameBio.

in alot of cases e domain is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I had a few domains that were "valued" at between ??1-3k

after months of listing them sold them for 10% of that. (which was still a nice payday for something i paid ??10 for)

most good .com (what ever your definition for a good .com) is still worth buying. Unfortunately this kind a model is saturated by now. But I think if you spend some time creating a domain parking page that resonates to your brandable domain name I think that will raise the value or at least justify the appraised value for a particular domain name.

Which parking page do you use? If you do, do you include a BIN price? Do you try reaching out to people? If you do, is it via email or social media?

Domainer here. It definitely works but it's a lot tougher than in the past, especially in getting good names as almost all are taken.

Can do with a ton of learning and a good budget.

This example doesn't help a lot, buying an already purchased domain so you can re-sell still requires a hefty chunk of initial investment. It's almost impossible to find anything anywhere near "mastermind dot com" today for less than a few ks.
Actually, it helps significantly in multiple ways, one of the most important being of a motivational factor to anyone who has the mindset to succeed in this industry.

Just as with any niche, which does not separate domain investing whatsoever, there is a wide range of business models which require varying degrees of capital investment.

There are plenty of opportunities for the beginning domain investor in today's marketplace (and will continue to be true in years to come) with a little investment and a lot of hard work, by focusing on one quality domain, flipping it, then reinvesting.

There are plenty of us on the other end of the scale who are fortunate enough to pocket significant incomes with a considerable investment and minimal hard work (I put all of my work into my domain business years ago). I am fortunate enough to bring in $xx,xxx monthly with about one flip per month (in the mastermind - com arena).

Agreed overall, but this specific angle is not available anymore to newcomers, but only to those who bought these domains years ago and held them. Chances of getting these today and flipping them for good cash are small to nil. Please don't give hopes to newbies only to get their dreams crushed. Your position is a privileged one.

Otherwise, yes money can be made but I'm afraid what matters is volume, scale, budget, skills and hard work - as the bulk of the market is in the xxx to low x,xxx value. There is also the brandables niche which is a wildcard, you can make good money there with less risk and investment but you need a very good instinct, skills and experience. So I'd say talent matters most with brandables and generally it is a factor. Domaining ain't for everyone, in my opinion.

Overall, margins are tight in general as you need to renew your portfolio yearly and for many domainers that's the make or break thing.

Edit: Except for those in this business for many years and having many old domains - for those margins are high to very high, just like @HiPurple .

I appreciate your perspective, but success stories of flipping for an excellent ROI in today's marketplace are all over the place.

This thread https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/whats-my-domain-worth.1184994 is a great example. Naysayers throughout the entire thread, but beginner OP flipped it for a good ROI.

Success is available to anyone who passionately desires it, regardless of the niche.

In every niche, you will find those who thrive (and are usually quiet about it) and those who struggle. This is not unique to domain investing.

There will always be those who think that we should just ditch internet marketing and take up knitting.

Please don't discourage me from encouraging others to pursue their goals.

It's all about perspective.

This looks pretty interesting I never thought about flipping domains but may have to look into it. Any more resources than those provided above?
