Becoming a Black Hat World moderator can be a very rewarding experience. As a moderator of Black Hat World, you gain a perspective very few are fortunate to have in the online marketing industry. In addition to helping your fellow community members, the knowledge and opportunities you can gain from a moderator position can go a long way towards improving your own skill set.

Please note that moderator positions are on a volunteer basis and the workload varies daily. If you're interested in the opportunity of becoming part of something bigger and contributing to our community in a new way, continue reading.

Who Are We Looking For
  • Members who wish to give back to the community through moderation.
  • Members who are experienced internet marketers. You don't need to be experienced in every facet of the industry, but knowledge of link building or social media in particular are a bonus.
  • Members who are supportive of the forum and the community. Everyone's allowed to have their opinions, but as a moderator, we want someone who's interested in contributing to the forum in a positive way.
  • Members with a thick skin who are comfortable with confrontation whilst not being prone to it. Being able to handle feedback and constructive criticism is an important part of the position.
  • Members who will be able to work well with the existing staff members. You don't need to be friends, but being able to work well in a team and coordinate on tasks is crucial.
Requirements
  • Applicants must be over 18 years of age.
  • Applicants must be proficient in the English language, although proficiency in a second language is a plus. Members with excellent written communication skills will be especially desirable.
  • Applicants must not have a live marketplace thread nor can they have the intention of having one after accepting their position.
  • Applicants must have an above-average understanding of the forum rules.
Responsibilities
Moderators will be expected to maintain their positions. Moderators who become inactive will lose their position so that we can make room for more staff members.

Responsibilities can include, but are not limited to:
  • Spam management.
  • Processing reports.
  • Moving threads.
  • Deleting rule-breaking threads.
  • Merging duplicate posts.
  • Identifying rule-breaking content.
  • Responding to queries from members.
  • Issuing infractions.
  • Clearing the moderation queue.
  • Being a good role model for the community.
Full-training will be provided for each selected applicant, although it will only benefit your application if you have prior knowledge of moderating forums.

How To Apply
You can apply to be a moderator on the staff application page. Please select "moderator-in-training" as the position you're applying for.

Once you've submitted your application, please do not message any of the staff members to inquire about the status of your application. If you are selected, you will be notified. Just like when you apply for any job, volunteer or paid, there's always a chance you may not get the job. If you aren't promoted right away, don't be disheartened. Rather, bear in mind that there's a lot of discussion that goes into each applicant we consider, therefore it takes us some time to select a moderator as we carefully consider each potential candidate.

"Applicants must not have a live marketplace thread nor can they have the intention of having one after accepting their position."

This is what I'm suggesting from years in mod's role ... glad it is in action now.

But BTB and misterf have sales threads. So if this is a new rule, why is it only enforced for the new applicants. Not trying to argue, I'm just curious about the logic behind this.

Don't worry, I think that's absolutely a fair question to ask.

It's unfortunately not a question I have the answer to since I didn't make the decision to implement the new rule. All I know is that it may have something to do with the changes that are coming to the moderator structure, which will be in effect when we on-board new moderators. The forum owner will most likely clarify this more once he has the opportunity, and I'll try to update this thread once it's clarified as well.
