We both sell the same customised item

He disappeared over a year ago but was fairly established for 2-3 years, mostly on Etsy but I would assume he got direct sales also

I started about the same time he disappeared but with no website.

His domain is now available and I have just launched my new website with the same product.

He still has dead links on google image and search when you search for his website/name but nothing when you search for the product

I don't think the url would get many searches, but who knows

Would you recommend buying the domain and forwarding the traffic to my own site?

Anything you would recommend (tools or websites) to check the old traffic or stats or anything like that?

How would play this? try to revive the site with content then forward or forward any traffic?

Very nooby so any help is appreciated

What are you waiting for?.

Just get the domain and I feel it's for a normal price?

If the domain name is not under his trademark name, then may be you can buy it if its worth it, lets say his name is Microsoft LOL, and the domain name is microsoft.net for example, you will be crazy to buy and operate this site because he can sue you for a trademark infringement even though the domain name is expired. But if the domain name is customwoodentoys.com or whatever, and there is a good possibility this name will never get a trademark approved, and if you are in the same niche and his website/ business (previous one) has some good kw searches then why not buy it, make sure to do research on it, could it be a penalized site? or have some other issues, check it before you buy it as there is a reason why he dropped it. If his type of business as far as the SEO goes does not have enough kws searches or he is not that famous for his work, then why bother buying it?
